Arrests as climate activists disrupt Sydney rush hour

According to local reports, arrests were made after climate activists blocked streets and the entrance to a major tunnel in Sydney during rush hour on Monday, June 27. Climate group Blockade Australia has released footage of the protests. In one video, a woman has locked herself behind the wheel of a car at the entrance to the Sydney Harbor Tunnel. The woman has been arrested, according to police. Another video from the group shows protesters marching through the city. Aerial footage released by local broadcaster 7News shows a vehicle that does not stop and hits a person. At least 10 people have been arrested for disrupting traffic during rush hours in the city, the ABC reported, and face up to two years in prison. Blockade Australia said they would continue to “cause disruption and resist climate destruction” in the coming days. Credit: Blockade Australia via Storyful
