Apple today announced the 10th-generation iPad, which will launch on October 26 alongside a new M2 iPad Pro and bring a slew of new features. In line with its more expensive brethren, this new iPad forgoes the 3.5mm headphone jack and home button in favor of a fuller 10.9-inch display. It still has a fingerprint reader for Touch ID, but like the newer iPad Air and Mini, it’s in the power button on the side. It also matches those models with a USB-C port for some added convenience when it comes to charging. However, this major redesign comes at a significantly higher price, as the 10th-generation iPad now starts at $449 with 64GB of storage.

Thankfully, last year’s ninth-generation iPad seems to stick with those who prefer the $329 price (and often discounted). But the new 2022 iPad has a few tricks of its own that are new to the entire line, including a landscape-facing front-facing camera and an optional magnetically attachable keyboard folio case — complete with a 14-key function row.

This is also one of the more colorful iPads as it will be available in silver, blue, yellow and pink. But while it gets an upgrade in the ambience department, the new entry-level model also gets Apple’s newer A14 Bionic processor (same as the iPhone 12 and a generation ahead of the ninth-generation iPad’s A13 Bionic). We’ll have to test-drive these new iPads to see if these changes are worth the extra $120 over its predecessor, but early adopters can jump in now if they want it right away.

Apple, Best Buy, Targetand walmart are all taking pre-orders for the 2022 iPad, which launches on Wednesday, October 26. The base model starts with 64GB of storage and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity for $449. If you prefer more storage, you can opt for the 256GB model for $599.

Mobile versions of the 10th-generation iPad come with a 5G radio (a first for this line of iPads), starting at $599 for 64GB of storage. The top model of this iPad is a 5G version with 256GB of storage for $749 – which is frankly tipping into iPad Pro territory.
