Amazon is launching RxPass in the US, a new drug subscription exclusive to Prime members that charges users a $5 monthly fee to ship eligible prescription drugs to their doorstep. announced in a Tuesday press releasethe Amazon RxPass subscription program offers generic medications to treat more than 80 common health conditions, including high blood pressure, hair loss, anxiety, and acid reflux.

The $5 fee includes the delivery fee and will be added to Prime customers’ existing monthly subscription fees. The RxPass fee is a flat rate and will not increase even if users require multiple prescriptions each month. Medications can be delivered monthly or quarterly, depending on prescription requirements. Conditions covered by the service also include allergies, diabetes (excluding insulin), and anemia. Amazon says more than 150 million Americans are already taking one or more of the medications available through RxPass. Amazon has launched several healthcare services in recent years. The company shut down its original Amazon Care telehealth program (launched in 2019) last November in favor of its newer Amazon Clinic telehealth service. RxPass subscriptions are issued by Amazon Pharmacy – an affordable online pharmacy exclusively for Prime members that launched in 2020.

The RxPass subscription service is available today in most US states. Amazon has not announced any plans to expand the service outside the US or expand its drug list. Customers enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other government healthcare program are not eligible for RxPass, but can still use government insurance to fill prescriptions at Amazon Pharmacy.
