The Akebi’s Sailor Uniform season 2 anime features Komichi Akebi and her friends celebrating summer with swimsuits, beach trips, and gymnastics. But when will Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku season 2 come out?
For the first season, the anime was produced by the Japanese animation studio CloverWorks, which is known for producing the popular Rascal Does Not Dream or Bunny Girl Senpai anime, co-produced by Darling in the FranXX, the Fate/Grand Order anime series, the good – yet shortened Horimiya anime, and the original Wonder Egg Priority story, which was well-reviewed despite major production issues and delays.
In 2022, CloverWorks also released the anime My Dress-Up Darling, Tokyo 24th Ward, In The Heart of Kunoichi Tsubaki and the Shadows House Season 2 anime. CloverWorks also teamed up with WIT Studio on the 2022 Spy x Family anime, with a split-court Spy x Family Part 2 released later.
The main staff creating the Akebi’s Sailor Uniform season 2 anime has not yet been announced.
For the first season, the anime project was led by director Miyuki Kuroki (assistant director for the 2021 Fate/Grand Order film and the 2019 TV show). Writer Rino Yamazaki (episode screenwriter for Darling in the FranXX) provided the scripts and series composition.
Masato Anno (Slow Start), Taishi Kawakami (various animation roles for Darling in the FranXX), and Megumi Kouno (character design of Fate/Grand Order creatures) were all character designers and lead animation directors for the project. Composer Kana Utakane (Mieruko-chan, Re-Main) created the music.
The Akebi’s Sailor Uniform Season 2 OP (opening) and ED (ending) theme song music has not yet been announced.
For the first season, Akebi’s Sailor Uniform OP “The First Moment (Hajimari no Setsuna)” was performed by all 16 main Japanese voice actors, while the ED “Baton” was performed by Manatsu Murakami.

This article contains all that is known about Akebi’s Sailor Uniform Season 2 (Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku Season 2 / Akebi-chan Season 2) and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors and analysis. In the meantime, let’s get into what is known for sure.
Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku Season 2 Release Date Predictions: TV Sequel Probably Won’t Renew?
As of the last update, Studio CloverWorks, Aniplex or any other company associated with the production of the anime have not officially confirmed the release date of Akebi’s Sailor Uniform Season 2. Nor has the production of a sequel to Akebi-chan Season 2 been announced.
Once the news is officially confirmed, this article will be updated with the relevant information.
In the meantime, it’s impossible to speculate about when or if the Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku Season 2 release date will take place in the future.
The ratings of Akebi’s Sailor Uniform are solid but not great. CloverWorks’ animation quality and penchant for storytelling cannot be denied. The life story was innocently delightful and provided the occasional laugh.
It’s a rather stunning contrast to My Dress-Up Darling (Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru), which was also released in the same time frame as the Akebi-chan anime. Both started with the premise of a character wanting to sew their own outfit, but the overall tone of the narrative approach is completely different, which appeals to different audiences.
While the Akebi-chan anime was good, the story never made the leap to greatness, as it did nothing to set itself apart from the ever-growing anime crowd. The anime certainly developed some yuri undertones early on, but it didn’t go down the yuri route clearly enough to grab that audience’s attention.
Rather than an origin story for a future Komichi-the idol, the first season was just wholesome CGDCT (cute girls doing cute things) without having to worry about philosophy, storylines, or drama-filled conflict. For some anime fans, that’s positive, while for others, it’s negative.
Unfortunately for the Akebi-chan anime, the boost to Akebi-chan manga sales in Japan was minimal at best. By December 2021, the manga had reached 700,000 copies circulation for parts 1 to 8. The series peaked in sales in the first month with Volume 3 (notably the album cover had Komichi in a bikini), with more recent volumes at about half the sales level in 2021.
There were no follow-up reports on the Akebi anime that increased sales of the manga. In contrast, the My Dress-Up Darling manga sold millions in the same time frame and was number 7 in Oricon’s Top 20 by Series for February 2022.
Worse, the Akebi anime rarely made Crunchyroll’s Top 20 Popular Anime. That’s not a good sign, since international streaming revenues influence the decision-making of anime production committees the most.
As such, it seems reasonable to predict that they won’t have Akebi’s Sailor Uniform season 2 renewed, but it would be nice to be wrong.
Crunchyroll’s Akebi’s Sailor Uniform Season 2 English Dub Release Date
In the winter of 2022, the Akebi’s Sailor Uniform season 1 anime was streamed on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and VRV (not Netflix USA, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video).

Funimation and Crunchyroll’s Akebi’s Sailor Uniform English dub release date was January 29, 2022.
Presumably, the English dub of My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 will be announced in the future when the second season is green-lighted for production.
Akebi’s Sailor Uniform manga compared to the anime
The story for the anime television series is based on the manga of Akebi’s Sailor Uniform (Akebi-chan no Serafuku), written and illustrated by Hiro. The creator is also the illustrator of Super Cub, which concluded its story in March 2022 with light novel Volume 8.
Serialized in Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump online magazine since August 2016, the Akebi manga was out on Part 9 on October 19, 2021. When the anime’s first season ended in March 2022, the manga was up and running. chapter 58 (there was also a Chapter 0 prologue which is the opening scene of the anime).
Unfortunately, no North American publisher has announced the English translation of Akebi’s Sailor Uniform manga. However, there are fan translation projects that keep up with the latest Japanese chapters.

One aspect that immediately caught my eye with the anime adaptation is that it actually toned down the fan service. While certain scenes were in both versions, the manga certainly had blushing details that the anime only referenced rather than shown.
Manga purists generally prefer an anime adaptation to stick to the plot and adapt each chapter in a simple way. In this case, the Akebi anime definitely rearranged the story elements, starting with Episode 3, while introducing some original anime scenes, but CloverWorks did it so well that no one complains.
The biggest change was that the anime gave screen time to other girls’ storylines before going back to an early manga storyline about Komichi inviting the blonde twin-tailed Erika Kizaki to her home. Due to timeline shifting, the Erika fish storyline from chapters 8, 12 and 13 was modified by episode 6.
Bringing those individual chapters together, Erika was introduced to the anime early on as an apparent first best friend, only for Erika to go MIA for multiple episodes. Still, rearranging the story was better than the manga in which the two girls promised to hang out early to postpone the big event for several chapters, which in hindsight was kind of odd.
Episode 9 essentially combined story elements from other chapters to create an original anime episode that bridged the gap between chapters 16 and 17. It was essentially a teaser episode of Future Chapter 24 with swimsuits and rain at a river combined with parts of a Future Chapter pool. But since Episode 9 doesn’t completely replace the future trip to Tokyo (which was preceded by an early comment), the chapters can still be adapted by Akebi-chan Season 2 (or any OVA episode).
Despite things having changed to increase the story of each individual episode, the anime’s pace didn’t rush through the source material either. For example, Episode 1 edited chapters 0 through 2.
The swimming competition with Minakami Riri was based on chapters 14 and 15, and the final scene in episode 8, where the summer uniform was introduced with a triumphant twist, was from chapter 16. Episodes 10 through 12 then focused on events surrounding the summer sports festival.
All in all, the ending of the first season finale, Akebi-chan Episode 12, is predicted to match manga Volume 4: Chapter 23.

The good news is that there is plenty of source material to make Akebi’s Sailor Uniform season 2. Better yet, manga readers can read the anime ahead by jumping straight to manga chapter 24.
