Airbnb helps renters find an apartment so they can use it through Airbnb • australiabusinessblog.com

Airbnb really wants you to Airbnb an apartment. The last step is therefore to find tenants a place, which they can also list on the travel booking platform.

Today, the company introduced a new program called ‘Airbnb-friendly apartments’ in the US. It allows renters to find an apartment in more than 25 markets — including Austin, Houston, Phoenix, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Miami San Diego, Sacramento, and Tampa — where they can Airbnb a spare room or the entire apartment away.

At launch, the company partnered with local building owners to list 175 “Airbnb-friendly” apartments in various regions. Tenants can contact the company special site for the program and hunt for properties in a specific location. Once you’ve selected an apartment, you can use an income calculator that estimates how much you could earn by listing the property on Airbnb.

You can contact the building manager directly from the Airbnb site to schedule a tour of the property. In the program’s FAQ, Airbnb indicates that it does not own any of these properties. It also states that renters must follow local laws and building regulations about listing their home on Airbnb, along with the company’s own community guidelines. However, rental and lease agreements are handled directly between landlords and tenants, leaving Airbnb out of that part of the process.

Airbnb claimed that in a recent poll conducted by the company – the results of which are not public – three-quarters of “U.S. adults support allowing renters to share their apartments on a short-term basis.” The company is believed to have partnered with property owners to allow tenants to list their properties on a platform and earn some money from the scheme. However, Airbnb has not disclosed details of its partnership arrangements.

“Traditionally, renters have been barred from sharing their home part-time due to strict rental conditions. We believe this program will help more renters take advantage of Hosting on Airbnb to earn extra money to cover the rising cost of living,” the company said in an email response.

The travel booking company – which already employs more than 4 million hosts – wants to build an extensive network of hosts on the platform. Earlier this month, it released new tools for hosts, including a guided installation with a super host and better damage coverage. At the time, CEO Brian Chesky told australiabusinessblog.com that he doesn’t want to go “to an era of limited supply” when it comes to hosts. The Airbnb-friendly apartment program is another way for the company to have more listings on its platform.
