A Twitter executive got a court order to stop Elon Musk from firing her

Sinead McSweeney, Twitter’s Ireland-based global vice president of public policy, has been given a temporary injunction by the Dublin High Court to avoid her dismissal. according to a report by The Irish Times. McSweeney claims she lost access to her work accounts and Twitter’s Dublin office after failing to respond to the email Elon Musk sent to employees asking employees to answer “yes” to commit to Twitter’s “extremely hardcore” culture, or otherwise leave.

Musk sent the email shortly after his takeover of Twitter on Nov. 16, giving employees just over a day to confirm whether they wanted to stay with the company. If an employee didn’t click “yes” on the form in the email, Twitter said it would “treat that as a layoff” and then provide two months of salary with benefits along with one month of severance pay.

But McSweeney says she didn’t hit a “yes.” According to The timesMcSweeney never responded to the email because it didn’t outline Musk’s expectations for employees who decided to stay, and the severance package didn’t meet her “contractual rights.” McSweeney later received an email on November 18 confirming her “voluntary resignation”.

While Twitter’s lawyers reportedly acknowledged that McSweeney wants to stay with the company and said they would restore access to her accounts, The times reports that McSweeney is still locked out and unable to work. Judge Brian O’Moore granted McSweeney the injunction Friday, preventing Twitter from firing her but not reinstating her job. The court will hear her case next week.

McSweeney isn’t the only Twitter executive dealing with job insecurity. After Robin Wheeler, Twitter’s former head of ad sales, stepped down earlier this month, Musk convinced her to stay, but eventually fired her anyway. McSweeney similarly says she’s gotten “mixed messages” from Musk, and that he’s been firing and rehiring employees “with no apparent logic.”
